Both. It depends on your goals, budget, crop choices, preferences, and experience level. In Metro Atlanta, raised garden beds are often the easiest path to success because you control soil quality, drainage, and fertility from day one, which is a big advantage if your native soil is heavy clay, compacted, root-filled, or stays wet after rain. Raised beds also warm up faster in spring, look more clean and contained, and make spacing and weeding easier—especially for beginner vegetable gardeners. The main downsides are the upfront cost (materials + soil) and the fact that raised beds can dry out faster in summer, so consistent watering or drip irrigation matters. In-ground vegetable gardens can work great if you have decent soil, enough space, and you’re willing to improve the soil over time with compost and proper prep. They’re usually cheaper to start and don’t dry out as quickly, but results depend more on your existing soil and drainage, and tree roots and clay compaction can limit growth. During your garden design, we evaluate sunlight, drainage, soil condition, and root pressure, then recommend the best fit—raised beds, in-ground, or a mix of both.
